A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us at we worked to reopen after covid-19! I know that the year has been short as far as movies have gone and we are supper happy to be doing more than just selling drive up popcorn. The year has brought a new group of board members to the Fillmore County Cinema Association (Rialto II Movie Theater) as many of the long standing members have decided to step down or, at the very least, cut down on their amount of participation (me being one of the new members). As always, new members means new ideas and new duties. It has been exciting to see new ideas and learning how to become a manager. There have been coloring contests in October and November. The holiday season brought a $1.00 admission matinee movie with goodie bags and prize drawings.
I work at the Geneva Public Library and, as part of my job, I learn a lot about the history of Geneva and Fillmore County via the Geneva Nebraska Business History website and Fillmore County Newspaper Archive. I have found out that the Theater has been closed twice in the past due to lack of attendance. I am so happy that even after Covid-19 shutting down a large part of the county the better part of 2 years and so many of the movies moving to direct to streaming services, that the community support for the theater is still there. This weekend is the last movie of the year and board members are the ones working both nights. Please stop by and thank them for all that they are doing to help keep a movie theater in Geneva. Your appreciation would be a great holiday gift to all of them.
